Congratulations to Pownal Street Press author Rita Miceli, whose book Giaci and Me: A Mother’s Journey of Loving and Raising an Autistic Child received a Gold Nonfiction Book Award from the Nonfiction Authors Association!

Created by the Nonfiction Authors Association, an online community for writers to connect, exchange ideas, and learn how to write, publish, promote, and profit with nonfiction books, the Nonfiction Book Awards celebrate excellence in nonfiction books.

The Nonfiction Book Awards are reviewed by judges from the Nonfiction Authors Association. Nominated books are evaluated based on a scoring system that considers writing quality and aspects of book design, such as editing and overall design. Books that are selected as recipients of the Nonfiction Book Award are placed into three categories: gold, silver, and bronze.

“Sometimes we just need a friend, a person who knows what we’re going through and can honestly share their thoughts, fears, grief, and hope. Rita Miceli, mother of an autistic son, takes readers inside her home, her mind, and her heart as she struggles to deal with, and then finally, accept a difficult diagnosis that will forever shape her life.”

– Nonfiction Book Awards Reviewer

“As a health minister I really enjoyed this book because it shows the raw, unfiltered love, struggle, and growth that invites readers into the intimate world of a mother’s relentless pursuit of understanding and acceptance. Miceli’s honest reflections, coupled with her educational insights, offer a unique perspective on the autism journey. This book offers hope and guidance for families navigating similar paths.”

“[Miceli’s] story is a testament to the power of unwavering love and the fact that we have more strength than we realize at times. … Giaci and Me is not only about the journey of an autistic child but also about how a family learns to embrace difference with grace and courage. This book is a must-read for anyone seeking to understand the complexities of autism and the beauty of embracing life’s unpredictability with faith, culture, and an open heart.”
