Pownal Street Press is thrilled to announce the 2025 publication of Reg Catches a Salmon: A Growth Mindset Story for Kids. Reg Catches a Salmon is the third installment of the Tales for Big Feelings series, written by author Lori Gard and illustrated by Emma Martin.
Reg is a bear whose name rhymes with EGG. Reg wakes up one fine summer morning with his head full of possibilities: swimming, berry picking, fishing for minnows. But when his big sister Co-co tells him that today she’s going to teach him to catch a salmon, Reg becomes worried about learning something new. His heart beats louder, his muscles clench up, everything aches. He doesn’t know how to catch a salmon, and what if he just CAN’T?
Co-co reminds Reg to breathe and relax his body, and soon the pair find a quiet pool, and the lesson begins.
Reg Catches a Salmon, the latest in the Tales for Big Feelings series, guides readers through the challenge of learning new, hard things and the joy of trying and trying again. Reg Catches a Salmon will be out in bookstores on April 8th, 2025!
About the Tales for Big Feelings Series
Written by Lori Gard, an experienced educator and school guidance counselor on Prince Edward Island, the series supports parents and children in learning how to regulate their emotions.
Reg Goes Swimming: A Self-Regulation Story for Kids was the first book in the Tales for Big Feelings series. A story with a message around feelings, Reg Goes Swimming includes simple strategies to teach self regulation. With positive self-talk, belly breathing, and re-framing, Reg the bear moves from being emotionally dysregulated to a state of peace.
The follow-up book in the series was Reg Takes a Trip: A Co-Regulation Story for Kids. This story uses a guided meditation to navigate reluctant young sleepers into dreamland. Join Reg as he imagines what he might see, hear, smell and touch as he takes an imaginary trip to the ocean that will soon have him off to sleep.
