Pownal Street Press is excited to unveil the cover of Forget Regret. Forget Regret: A Memoir of Embracing Transformation after a Traumatic Brain Injury will be released April 15th, 2025 and is written by Kamya Rilling.

When an unexpected accident altered everything for sixteen-year old Kamya Rilling, life was just beginning. Finding herself in a hospital bed with partial paralysis due to a traumatic brain injury, Kamya faced an uncertain future. Forget Regret is a powerful memoir that brings readers into the raw, unfiltered experience of a young person grappling with physical, mental, and emotional upheaval.

More than just a story of survival, Forget Regret is a story of perseverance, individuality, and human connection. It serves as an inspiring reminder that the road to healing isn’t straight, nor is it one that must be traveled alone.

The Children’s Museum of Naples is such a special & magical place! My younger self would have loved this museum which allows children to play in real life areas such as a grocery store, post office, art gallery, and more! I am so grateful to have been a part of their Rescue Day event this past Saturday! The Naples Humane Society brought along Fudge, the super intelligent & sweet Corgie mix along with Penny & Peaches who were the sweetest kittens! It was such an amazing day!!!

Attention writers & aspiring authors! ✍️📚

Pownal Street Press opens our traditional submission twice a year, in June and December. This December, we will be accepting manuscripts again for our traditional program!

In creating books at PSP, we focus on publishing stories that celebrate diversity in culture and relationships, that connect people to the land, and that tie us closer to our communities.

For our traditional list, we look for nonfiction, memoir, poetry and children’s picture book submissions, that speak with themes from the local to the universal.

Pownal Street Press values books with spiritual or self-growth elements. We encourage submissions of narrative-driven memoirs, first person accounts, works with a philosophical question, or any manuscripts that support the human experience.

To submit, please send us a query letter introducing your submission at hello@pownalstreetpress.com and attach your work. Please use the subject line “Traditional” in your email. We will be accepting manuscripts for consideration until December 31st, 2024.

All submissions should be considered complete. Writers from BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and underrepresented populations are encouraged to apply; our traditional program is open to Canadian residents only. Submissions will only be accepted via email, so please no inquiries via our social media.

Please note, we are a small independent publisher that publishes 15 hybrid and traditional titles a year. We have one traditional spot available for 2025, and if there isn’t a book that fits, we won’t fill that spot.

In a world that seems to not want to learn from the past, that wants to keep sweeping truth under the rug, that has its ears and hearts shut, a world that needs radical transformation. It is revolutionary to listen.

“I’ve heard that wind carries prayers - the soft breeze - the crisp air - the shocked humans when they realised what they were witnessing - the shivers - the tears - the hands that tied these ribbons - the grief, oh the heavy heavy unbearable grief - this 44 foot, 13.5 metre long installation, with 460 strings, with 100 ribbons double knotted per string .. each ribbon represents ONE stolen human life in Palestine & Lebanon in just over a year - by hands covered in blood - by spirits robbed of dignity.

This project took a whole month to put together. And unfortunately, more strings, more ribbons, need to be added. Many many humans helped. What a gift their time and effort was. Countless cups of tea, conversations and sore bodies.

46,000 ribbons showed us how these humans are not numbers. The weight of seeing a curtain of ancestors will likely haunt every person who was at this event.

Installation seeks an indoor public space to live in. So more eyes and hearts can feel how deep in darkness we are and hopefully be moved into action, however small or big.”
